In the last decade, there has been an increase in the number of secondary houses in the Alpine space. Because more and more people want to have their own place in nature, in peace, where they can relax, retreat for the weekend and escape from the city centres. On the other hand, the owners of the secondary houses recognise them as a quick and easy way to make money in the short-term rental. Due to the intensive construction of secondary houses, the prices of apartments in the area are rising and young people cannot afford them. Consequently, housing problems are being solved outside their hometown or municipality. The master thesis presents the issue of housing in the developed areas in the Alpine space in the selected municipalities of Bled, Bohinj, Bovec and Kranjska Gora. We have proposed measures to improve accessibility of apartments for young people and families in the existing building stock. At the same time, with the proposed measures, we also want to direct the construction and the way of renting out secondary houses in the area. We made a review of literature, studies, the law, international documents and examples of good practice in the field of housing issues in the Alpine space. We made a synthesis of various indicators for the considered area: demography, tourism, housing, transport accessibility and economic public infrastructure. In the selected settlement of Stara Fužina, in the municipality of Bohinj, we analysed the number of secondary houses and facilities for permanent residence. With the overall review, we suggested four proposals for measures to solve the housing problem in the existing building stock.
