The topic of this article is teaching Slovenian verbal aspect to francophone speakers of Slovenian as a second and foreign language. To address this area of grammar (for both the teacher and learners), first the differences and especially similarities between the French and Slovenian verb are presented. The article then seeks to answer when and how to treat this topic in class. It concludes that teachers are largely left to find the balance between their autonomy and »obligations« about knowledge standards when teaching this subject due to the lack of literature and the complexity of the subject matter.
