Swimming is a very popular sport due to the legality of the exercise and its good health effects. Most learn to swim in various swimming courses already in childhood, which is reflected in the large number of recreational swimmers as well as professional athletes.
Adequate conditions must be provided for swimming training. In Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, there is no suitable swimming pool that would allow for high-quality swimming training and competitions throughout the year. Due to the lack of spatial capacity and dilapidation, as well as poor maintenance of the existing swimming pools, the development of new athletes is also problematic.
It would be possible to remodel the existing swimming pools, which would improve their quality, but in the vast majority of the existing swimming pools, the space limitations do not allow for major upgrades, so the spatial problem would still be present.
The master’s thesis presents the possibility of designing a new sports swimming center in the area of the existing football stadium Svoboda. The sports swimming center enables the implementation of all water sports training and competitions, while at the same time integrally shaping the wider area and creating a high-quality public space dedicated to sports and recreation.
