CAD modeling plays an important role in the construction development process. CAD
modeling is also possible on open-source modeling softwares, the question is what quality
are they. We determine this by comparing open-source CAD software with commercial
CAD software by designing the same models. In addition to designing itself, we also
review what these CAD softwares are capable of, which is indispensable in mechanical
engineering. We find that open-source CAD softwares can compete with classical ones, but
in certain aspects they are still worse or less powerful. Not all open-source CAD softwares
are equally capable, so we find that some are completely useless for mechanical
engineering.
