Starting molybdenum(V) materials, (PyH)5[MoOCl4(H2O)]3Cl2 in (PyH)[MoOBr4], were reacted with picolinic acid in different solvents. In order to deprotonate the acid, the reaction mixtures were added a base. As a result, three novel molybdenum(V) coordination compounds with picolinate were obtained: neutral [Mo2O4(Py)2(pic)2], ionic compound (PyH)2[Mo2O4Cl2(pic)2]‧CH3CN and propionitrile analogue of the latter, (PyH)2[Mo2O4Cl2(pic)2]‧CH3CH2CN. The reactions of (PyH)5[MoOCl4(H2O)]3Cl2 with pyrazinecarboxylate afforded a single compound, (PyH)2[Mo2O4Cl2(pyraCOO)2]‧CH3CN. The latter contains pyrazinecarboxylate which is coordinated to molybdenum(V).
