This thesis presents the representation and misinterpretation of mental disorders in modern media such as film production and in TV-series. I focuses on a few of the most popular films and TV shows, and expressed my own thoughts about them as well as the opinions of the professionals that I researched along the way. The theoretical section is backed up by my short film, covering a mentally ill individual experiencing impostor syndrome while talking to his alter egos. The entire thesis touches on psychological realism, which is also explored later on and connected to the short film. Through this, I would like to invite people to open their minds when watching their favorite films or TV shows. Do not just surrender to the story, even though many people think that is what movies are for.
