The herewith master thesis reaserch work explores an overview of autonomous driving and
its usage when it comes to vehicles used for commercial purposes. The initial research objective
is to analyse and at the same time demonstrate that self-driving vehicles are suitable for
transport modes as the means supporting the mobility of passengers and freight. In the light of
the foregoing, I wanted to introduce in detail both the development of technology, closely
related to self-driving vehicles, and development of such vehicles. Furthermore, a detailed
demonstration of research studies justifying the advantages and disadvantages as far as selfdriving vehicles is concerned, follows. While working on my research I carried out a survey
after sending a questionnaire to the Slovenian transport companies, in order to verify the
readiness of the transport companies in Slovenia when it comes to purchasing and using selfdriving vehicles. Finally, the hypotheses were introduced and in the end all the reasons for their
confirmation or rejection were also given.
