The goal of this thesis was to determine the presence, richness and distribution of macrophytes in eleven ponds at the Brdo pri Kranju estate. We measured physical and chemical parameters of the water in the ponds, the nitrate and phosphate content, the surface of the ponds and their maximal depth. We estimated the Secchi depth, the structure of the ponds and their shore and catchment area. All of the factors above have a direct and indirect influence on the distribution and existence of macrophytes in the ponds. In each pond we chose 3 transects and determined the presence, richness and distribution of macrophytes on different depth levels. 43 macrophyte taxa - 32 emergent, 3 natant and 8 submerged were determined. We found out that the presence, richness and distribution of the macrophytes vary from one pond to another and according to our research the distribution of macrophytes is significantly influenced by different physical and chemical factors.
