Naslov:The mental health of members of the armed forces, police officers, and medical personnel during the Covid-19 crisis
Izvleček:
The SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes the disease Covid-19 broke out in December 2019. The World Health Organization (WHO) was notified of emerging cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in the city of Wuhan, China on the 31st December 2019. Slovenia was also strongly affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus with more than 6,600 death cases caused by Covid-19 till July 2022. Society was exposed to major security risks during the Covid-19 pandemic. The theses is mostly focused on human health safety and human safety provided by the police officers and soldiers. Their work is generally demanding and requires a lot of sacrifices. In crisis situations it becomes even more strenuous and stressful, due to irregular schedules and exposure to life-threatening situations as well as death. All these can lead to severe exhaustion and mental health problems. When working on the master's thesis, special attention was paid to the mental health of members of the Armed Forces, police officers, and medical personnel during the Covid-19 crisis. A survey was carried out of the above-stated professions and the obtained data were used to calculate the Pearson correlation coefficients between various mental health problems and the Covid-19 epidemic. It was found that there is a medium strength correlation between depression and the Covid-19 epidemic (r = .567, p = < 0.01) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Covid-19 (r = .543, p = < 0.01). That was proved in all studied professions. 30 % of respondents showed signs of depression and no one showed signs of PTSD. In the master’s thesis the concept of well-being, the theory of positive psychology, and the theory of mental health were used.
