The impact of solvents and ratio of reactants in various reactions of diatrizoic acid with these reactants has been tested. The appearance of cocrystals and existance of halogen bonds in cocrystals was analysed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Cocrystals are solid compounds that are crystalline single phase materials, they form a particular crystalline structure with particular properties, being a higher chemical stability, lower melting point, faster dissolution and higher solubility. Cocrystals can be applied in plenty different areas and are additionally frequently used in pharmacy for their unique characteristics. Diatrizoic acid is additionally used as a contrast medium in X-ray scans for visualization of internal organs and vessels. In my work I prepared crystals between diatrizoic acid and other nitrogen compounds and confirm their structure with analytical methods mentioned above. The products could potentially be used as new contrast medium with fewer side effects and would be safer to use than the contrast mediums used in the medicine currently and in the past.
