This work studies the effect the media, in the form of articles from the biggest media houses
around the world, and the more popular videos on the online portal called YouTube have.
For easier understanding of this particular situation, there is also a questionnaire used, which was done based on the current situation in the Fukushima prefecture and the themes connected to it, which are radiation and radioactivity, evacuation, food safety and more.
The media, such as articles and videos, are the main source of information to us as a reader or a viewer, however, they can be misrepresented in a way that could confuse or give us the wrong impression on a certain situation. The earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear disaster
in the Japanese prefecture called Fukushima, is an event which is still being reported on
quite regularly, because the situation is similar to that of the Ukraine-based Chernobyl
disaster in 1986. But even if the media is still reporting on the events connected to the
nuclear disaster, not all of the information could be credible, or is simply represented in a
way that fills us with fear and mistrust. Due to these reasons, the articles and videos in this work have been studied from three different perspectives, those being extreme and fearmongering titles, the themes of radiation and radioactivity and last but not least, the news of so-called contaminated water being released into the ocean. Based on these perspectives, the information opposing certain statements given in these articles that could confuse a reader is then given.
In the conclusion, the question asking how to handle the media in the future is given and
what can we do to not let the information given in them cloud our judgment.
