The work focuses on the spatial positioning of the university in space. Today, the university remains one of the central institutions of formal education and is involved in the processes of knowledge production, together with the city in which it is located. Universities and cities together create an important space for social relations between the individuals and groups involved in this process (students, teachers, service activities, etc.) The thesis determines to what extent the typology of the placement of the buildings of the University of Ljubljana (UL) in the urban space is comparable to the average in other European cities. At the same time, we investigate whether the university city of Ljubljana has the potential to develop an urban campus, which we find to be the dominant spatial planning model for today's universities. Based on the research guidelines, the thesis presents the social and spatial aspects that the university bears in relation to the city. We find that the UL followed the concept of the development of four centres which today the logic of construction no longer follows. We also note that Ljubljana has the spatial capacity to create two university campuses.
