The village of Duplje was first mentioned in 1246, and the parish was founded in 1876. Since then, the parish has been home to two churches: the parish church in Spodnje Duplje, which was built in 1789 (when the old church was demolished and a new one was built), and the church in Zgornje Duplje, which was first mentioned in 1391. This thesis presents with more details the religious developments in Duplje in the 19th century, when an independent parish gradually emerged. Its formation was mainly influenced by the faithful who, through their work and petitions, achieved its foundation, and by the priests who supported them to the best of their abilities. In this thesis, the history of the parish of Duplje up to the end of the First World War is explored.
The thesis is based on inventoried and undescribed archival material and other published specialist literature. In the overview of the events in the parish during the 19th century, the data is arranged chronologically. The pastors who worked in Duplje are presented according to the period of their residence and activity in Duplje.
