My thesis tries to shine a light on spirituality, faith and its place in philosophy. Within it I try
to capture the philosophical nature of Etty Hillesum and use her unique point of view to
examine other philosophies and their authors. The whole comparison rests heavily upon
Ulrich Beck’s work A God of One's Own, which chronicles the evolution of religion and its
effect on society. Within the scope of Ulrich’s work I try to navigate and find all the
necessary ingredients to build a solid comparison between Etty and her philosophical
counterparts.
