The thesis presents the course and development of hop growing in the village of Prekopa. Hop growing has evolved and changed considerably over the years, and the thesis explores the question of whether and how hop growing has changed Prekopa and what impact it has had on Prekopa. The thesis also deals with the ecological characteristics of the hop plant, different hop varieties and hop breeding. On the basis of the interviewees’ memories, hop growing in the past is described and compared with today’s work processes which have changed due to technical development. The aim of the thesis is to show how hop growing rose to the top of the village economy in the 1960s and how this continued and changed until today.
