The purpose of the thesis is to research and analyze the influence of pop culture, especially pop music, on society and individuals, using the example of the global pop star Madonna. We often mark pop culture as unimportant, bland, forgetting how much it shapes our perception of the world around us. In my thesis, I explain what Madonna's work means in the broader context of the development of pop music and pop culture, how her bold stunts helped to advance and shape pop culture. I refer to Adorno’s theory. I focus on how she influenced me in
my own art practice - the practical part of the diploma work, which is the artist's book. I turn to zine making and the DIY concept of art making, that spreaded within pop culture, espe-
cially with the rise of punk music. The artist's book acts as a superstructure of the zine and focuses on my personal relationship with Madonna's work, as well as her influence on me and my practice.
