Different types of sexual orientation in three contemporary novels
This thesis deals with different types of sexual orientation and the discriminatory and intolerant attitudes towards gay, lesbian, bisexual and transexual individuals based solely on their sexual identity, sexual expression and sexual orientation. Literary analysis encompasses the motives of homophobia and transphobia in three contemporary novels: My Name is Damjan by the Slovenian author Suzana Tratnik, Year of Pearls by the Czech author Zuzana Brabcová, and Before Night Falls by the Cuban author Reinaldo Arenas. The analysis of the three novels is focused on the motives of homophobia and transphobia in the text, specifically how they are presented, who they are presented by and how other characters react to them.
