Aluminum production produces large amounts of toxic red mud waste, which contains many valuable metals such as scandium. Developing the process of scandium extraction from an alternative source is important, as it is a very promising material for the development of new technologies, which is currently limited by its high price. In addition, it also has geopolitical significance for achieving the independence of the European Union in the supply of critical raw materials. In the Master's work, the selective extraction of scandium from red mud leach solution into the organic phase was achieved using a liquid extraction process at a 20 mM concentration of the DEHPA extractant. The extraction conditions were adapted for a sample of red mud from Podgorica, Montenegro. In addition to the basic batch experiments, the extraction was also carried out on a continuous level in a mixer-settler, which brought the research closer to the industrial level of red mud recycling for the purpose of scandium recovery.
