The diploma thesis is based on the research of textile design as a contemporary scenographic practice and on the creation of site-specific textile scenographic installations. In the framework of the theoretical-research part, selected key scenographic examples from the contemporary Slovenian theatre scene are presented: the new Slovenian opera Code L composed by Milko Lazar, directed and designed by Rocc, the new Slovenian ballet Composition composed by Drago Ivanuša with choreography by Sanja Nešković Peršin and scenography by Meta Grgurevič, Point. No Return, an installative-performance project by Sanja Nešković Peršin in collaboration with the costume designer Uroš Belantič, and the theatre piece Heroines directed and designed by Aleksandar Popovski.
The creative-practical part consists of the description and analysis of the creative
process and realization as well as visual documentation of the textile set designs for the two opera projects directed by Slovenian opera director Rocc: The Little Match Girl, a newly created chamber opera by Slovenian composer and librettist Tina Mauko, produced by the Slovenian Chamber Music Theatre (premiered on June 23, 2021 in the Old Power Station in Ljubljana), and Agrippina, a baroque opera seria composed by George Frideric Handel, produced by the
Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana (premiered on April 23, 2022 in the Linhart Hall of the Cankar Centre in Ljubljana). Both scenographic projects were created in
collaboration with a group of textile and fashion design students from the Department of Textiles, Graphic Arts and Design at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the University of Ljubljana.
