In the master's thesis, the importance of biometric data in smart homes was explored. Firstly, in the theoretical part what is biometric data and what is a smart home was examined. In the experimental part four smart homes were studied; Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings. It was researched how data is handled and protected, based on the functionality of their systems and the use of biometric dataThe obtained results were arranged in tables, and conclusions were drawn from them. Errors in the system as well as privacy breaches were found in all four smart homes. No major deviations were found between the four smart homes examined from a data protection point of view. The most violations were found about Samsung SmartThings, moreover Amazon's smart home has been confirmed to create and store audio recordings of its users. Based on the smart homes studied, the first two to recommend are Google Home or Apple’s HomeKit. Biometric data does not receive special treatment with any of them and is not sufficiently protected.
