Study abroad is increasingly popular among Slovenian students. More and more Slovenians are starting or continuing their studies abroad. Whether on a long-term study abroad or just on an exchange abroad, they realise that the world can be different, they learn about other cultures, they realise that the possibilities are endless. Their decision to go abroad certainly depends on certain factors. In my thesis, based on personal, social, cultural and economic factors, I have identified what attracts a certain group of people - Slovenian music students in Austria - abroad. In my work I wanted to find out which factors are most important for this group to decide to study abroad. Through previous existing studies on the determinants of the decision to study abroad, Bourdieu's theories of capital and statistical research, I explored the extrinsic factors. I designed two questionnaires, which I used to conduct interviews (between Slovenians studying in Austria and Slovenians studying in Slovenia) and a survey. I interpreted and analysed the data. The answers were mostly in agreement. I also found that students decide to study abroad based on their acceptance or non-acceptance of other cultures and better job opportunities.
