In the manufacturing industry, it always strives to optimize processes, which means high process efficiencies and minimal amounts of production residues. The aim of the diploma thesis is to review the management of production residues and reduce the costs associated with the management of production residues in the pharmaceutical industry.
When dealing with production residues or. waste, we quickly come to the conclusion that the most efficient management of production residues is the prevention of residue generation, which is associated with changes in the production processes themselves.
However, since large quantities of natural gas energy are used in the technological steam production plant and the plant already has a permit for co-incineration of waste, I focused on the energy use of production residues in my diploma thesis. The aim was to reduce the cost of hazardous waste and save on natural gas consumption
I focused mainly on two processes in which a production residue is formed, which is a mixture of several solvents with a low content of water and impurities. Both production residues are classified as hazardous waste, as they both have more than one hazard. Based on the records on composition and quantity, I found that we emit large amounts of waste from both processes on an annual basis. I collected the identified quantities and checked their energy value, which is slightly lower than the energy value of natural gas. It has been shown that in the case of energy recovery of production residue in our own plant, the cost of waste disposal is reduced by 1.6 million euros, in addition, natural gas consumption was reduced by 1.7 million cubic meters. The realization of these savings requires an investment in infrastructure that will enable the collection of production residues in the collection tank from which the production residues are pumped to the industrial incineration plant. The investment in infrastructure would be repaid within a few months.
