This master thesis aims to explore the influence of inclusive design when designing various products or services and how these influence the lives of underrepresented and marginalized groups of people. I will also be focusing on different design processes and methods of user centered design and how they can be improved with the use of inclusive design principles. The main goal of the thesis is to demystify inclusive design and encourage different designers to start infusing their work with it.
The first part of the thesis will consist of analyzing existing methods of inclusive design, mainly focusing on its three main principles. In the theoretical part, I will explore different methods of user-centered design and present different cases of use of inclusive design and how inclusivity influences our society.
The empirical part of the thesis aims to present different qualitative methods that influenced the conceptualisation and implementation of the final thesis project – an inclusive design Figma toolkit that mainly acts as an introduction to inclusive design and presents a learning opportunity for designers through various inclusivity exercises. That way, designers can implement inclusive design principles and methods to their existing design process more seamlessly. In the last part of the masters thesis, I will also be presenting the inclusive design website which, additionally to Figma, presents an entry point to the inclusive design toolkit.
