Introduction: Cerebrovascular insult, known as stroke, is one of the most common cases of neurological disease worldwide. Number of stroke patients grows steadily each year, mainly due to the process of ageing. Rehabilitation after a stroke is long-lasting. Adjustments of everyday life are needed, including engagement of family members, health professionals, as well as occupational therapies, which place the necessary adjustments in the course of treatment. Purpose: The main purpose of this work was to investigate the adjustments in occupational performance of people after stroke. Methods: In the research we used a qualitative method. The process comprised of a semi-structured research interview which included 8 post-stroke adults one year or more post stroke. Results: From this work, we defined 6 categories that have been indicated by the participants. These include: difficulties after stroke, occupational limitations, changed set of occupations, occupation adjustments, patient response to carrying out occupations and the role of occupational therapy. In addition, 16 subcategories were formed. Even though all participants of this study still struggle with various occupational limitations, findings from our study suggest that people after stroke, using various tools and equipment, self-adapt to different occupations in order to cope with everyday life situations. During acute phase after stroke, participants observed overwhelming negative emotions. After a year, positive emotions started to emerge. The Association of Patients with Cerebrovascular Diseases of Slovenia, which carries out activities in the field of sports, creativity and professionalism, was of great help to the participants. Occupational therapy treatments for the purpose of rehabilitation were given to five of the eight participants and the adjustment of occupations made an important
contribution to their progress. Discussion and conclusion: Limitations after stroke affect the quality of life and occupational performance. Patients after stroke adapt and adjust their environment according to their own needs. Nevertheless, it is important to educate stroke patients, whom haven't received the occupational therapy regarding occupational adjustments in their living environments.
