A search trough articles with descriptions of selected manganese and nickel compounds with the anion of the tartaric acid (C4H6O6 = H4L) was performed. Three manganese along with two nickel compounds were found. These are: Na5[Mn(L)2](H2O)12 (1), {[Ni2(H2L)2(H2O)2](H2O)3}n (2), {[Mn2(H2L)2(H2O)](H2O)3}n (3), {[Mn(H2L)(H2O)](H2O)}n (4) and [Ni4(H2L)4(H2O)8](EtOH)0.5(H2O)10.25 (5). The authors described their syntheses and characterisation. Their structures and composition were idenified with elemental analysis, X-ray structural analysis, IR spectroscopy and thermal analysis. Compounds are with M2+ and coordination moieties are molecular. An xception is ionic compound 1 H2L2- with Mn3+ and L4-. Structures of all compounds are stabilized with hydrogen bonds via tartrate ligand and water molecules.
