Introduction: Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia is a heart-rate disorder, which can also affect young people and people with a healthy heart. The prognosis of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia is good, and the possibility of complete recovery is high. Symptoms range from mild to severe palpitations causing fatigue, respiratory distress, and dizziness. Attacks can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. Purpose: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to present the nursing care of a patient with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia upon admission to hospital on the basis of a literature review. We want to study the most frequent interventions in patients with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia performed by nurses. Methods: A descriptive method of work with a literature review was used. We reviewed the literature and used accessible articles in Slovene, English, and Croatian. CINAHL, Medline, and Science Direct databases formed the basis of our literature search. We also used the Google Scholar web browser and the COBIB.si library catalogue. The literature search took place from May 2019 to August 2021. Only literature published from 2008 onwards was included. Results: We have found that the during the admission of a patient with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia to hospital, the role of a nurse is very important. They work closely with the doctor and other team members to perform interventions. The nurse constantly monitors the patient, performs measurements, takes samples, participates in the treatment of the patient, applies medication at the request of the doctor, and monitors any complications after therapy, interventions, and procedures. The nurse performs nursing care interventions in vagal maneuvers, electrocardiographic imaging, during electrical conversion, and after it. The nurse also assists in electrofrequency studies and radiofrequency ablations, performing nursing care interventions before and after the procedure. It is important to explain the procedure and possible complications to the patient before each procedure and intervention. It is also necessary to obtain an informed consent for each examination and procedure from the patient. Discussion and conclusion: A patient with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia is accompanied by a nurse during the entire course of treatment, both upon admission to the hospital and potential admission to the ward. The nurse is independent in monitoring the patient's vital signs and performing various nursing interventions. During treatment, they are responsible for professionally performing interventions and supervising the patient. The nurse also provides health education to the patient with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, their relatives, and other loved ones. A nurse is thus an indispensable member of the medical team.
