The Master’s thesis presents the analysis of the world cycling accident statistics based on the hospital discharge reports. Listed are the numerical criteria for the injury severity score and the expected handlebar injury sites. The simulation methodology of the impact forces in a cyclist fall is shown on the example of a real-life cyclist accident recording. Based on the information on the main causes for the single-bicycle crashes presented in the literature, a series of simulations in LS-DYNA was prepared in several steps. The effects of the studied variables on the obtained forces were then numerically evaluated and the simulation accelerations were compared to the corresponding measurements from the literature. The mean value and the standard deviation of the maximum simulated force during the contact between the palm and the handlebar when encountering various obstacles on the road are 1.69 kN and 2.09 kN. The proposed safety mechanism with a pin inside the head tube is graphically displayed. Finally, the conceptual design of the test facility is outlined.
