In my thesis I am discussing differences and diversities in picture books. The main focus lies on how diversity and difference is shown for the children in the early stages of reading development as there has been a rise of such books in the recent years. While investigating I wondered what kind of differences are the most prevalent in the Slovene picture books. As well as in what form the main character is depicted, whether is in human or animal form. I analysed twenty-five Slovene picture books and put them into the categories each representing the type of difference or diversity. I concluded that the stories mainly begin with unaccepting or disapproving, scorning attitude towards someone different which by the end transforms into acceptance and social inclusion (and therefore fills us with a loving and happy feelings.) Very often we can find the gifts and talents in that which makes the character different.
