In my diploma thesis I will be writing about the influences of Federico García Lorca on
Slovenian translators and creators. The purpose of the thesis is to establish how Lorca's
influences are reflected in the work of the poets who translated or read his poetry. Special
attention is given to Jože Udovič, as he was the first to publish a collection of Lorca's selected
poems in Slovene. I will look to Ciril Bergles for influences and present him as a poet and
translator for Lorca. As well as Dane Zajc, who is known to be greatly influenced by Lorca. I
will be writting about Aleš Berger, one of the greatest Slovenian poets of the 20th century, who
is an important translator that was the first to translate Lorca's poetry in the form of Spanish
romances. I will also be dealing with the original of Spanish romance and free verse, and present
the most important movements that influenced Lorca’s poetic creation – surrealism, and
symbolism.
