This undergraduate thesis attempts to illuminate questions regarding the social history of the Žumberak uskoks in the 16th century. The main focus of this work is mainly on the interest in answering the questions: Who were the Žumberak uskoks in the 16th century?; How did the Žumberak uskoks live?; Why and how was their way of life changing? The author came up with the answers to these questions by coordinating analyses and synthesis of sources and literature. Accordingly, he came to the conclusions that many of them were migrants from the Ottoman Empire, and also that many of them were vlachs. From the social history of the Žumberak uskoks in the 16th century, we can see that their living conditions were difficult and that they lived differently from the rest of the local population. This is an important fact which can help us understand and maybe even (partly) identify with them. The author comes to the conclusion that we still lack precise understanding of their family and military life, although quite some pieces of information are available.
