In the novels Ime mi je Damjan and 生命胜于身体 (Life Beyond My Body) we encounter the problem of gender identity. Throughout the story, we follow the two protagonists and their confrontation with self-knowledge and the consequent lesbianism and transsexuality. In the first novel, we witness nineteen-year-old Damjan, who depicts one of the paths of a young man with a socially unconventional, transgender identity. In the second novel, we witness a Chinese girl who, at an early age, began to realize that she did not feel the best in her body. By substantiating their gender identity, we learn about the problems faced by people who have been forced to live a life based on a predetermined gender identity. In recent decades, such stories have become increasingly close to us, and it is right to talk about ways to break free from forced sexual identities.
