The bachelor´s thesis deals with the plaster cast Podoba škofa Tomaža Hrena created by the sculptor Valentin Kos. After the examination of the current state of the artwork we concluded that it´s condition is satisfactory and decided to focus primarily on the so-called aesthetic irregularities. The conservation-restoration plan included cleaning the surface with agar gel, filling and colour retouching of minor scratches and abrasions, and reconstructing the missing tip of the nose.
Prior to the intervention, it was necessary to gain more general information about the work of art, as there was only a limited amount of it provided by the museum. It was also necessary to research the material used to create the work of art and find possible solutions to conservation-restoration problems. The first part of the thesis describes the artwork itself, the material used to make it, the issue of its preservation, and the art-historical analysis in which the author of the plaster cast is presented.
The second part describes the manufacturing technique, presents the conservation-restoration treatment with a more detailed description of the nose tip reconstruction.
