This thesis deals with the problem of fuel consumption of a tanker ship and outlines an attempt to determine the optimal way of sailing.
Test voyages were carried out, changing the draft and trim of the ship during the voyage by taking on additional ballast and in the second part of the thesis, to observe the operation of a system of frequency-controlled cooling water pumps.
It was found out that the fuel consumption is the lowest at the design draft of the ship, but that it is generally highly dependent on environmental parameters (weather, seastate). The operation of the frequency-controlled pumps system led to minor fuel savings, proportional to the number of pumps connected to the system.
