Five simple copper(II) coordination compounds with glutaric acid anion were selected (C5H8O4 = H2L). These compounds are: {[Cu2(L)2(OCN2H4)2]•2H2O}n 1, [Cu2(L)(Phen)4]∙2(ClO4)∙5(H2O)∙(C2H5OH) 2, {[Cu2(L)2(NH3)4(H2O)2]∙4(H2O)}n 3, {[Cu5(OH)6(L)2]∙4(H2O)}n 4 and [Cu2(L)2(DMF)2]n 5. An additional ligand, typically with nitrogen donor atom, is also present in all of them. The compounds have a determined structure and are described by some other standard physico-chemical methods. Glutarate double anion serves in all cases as a bridge. It enables dinuclear units (four bridges) in 1 and 5, being connected into chains. In 2, it is a single intradinucler bridge, while connects copper centers in a chain in 3, and fivenuclear units in 4. IR spectra in all five compounds reveal the characteristic carboxylate vibrations at 1600 and 1400 cm-1.
