The main topic of the diploma’s thesis are illegitimate children in Carinthia in the second half of the 19th century. The analysis focuses on illegitimate births in the parish of Dravograd, which today lies right next to the Austrian border. The work initially explores the social and legal status of illegitimate children and their mothers and seeks to shed light on birth statistics in Carniola, Styria and Carinthia. The main goal is to investigate the number of illegitimate births in the parish and to determine whether Carinthia really stood out from the average, as well as whether there was a difference between naming children of married parents and illegitimate children and between their number in urban and rural areas. The analysed data were obtained from the baptismal registers of the parish of Dravograd. Data on the children of married parents from the same source and research and analysis by other authors with similar content are used for comparison, with which the work tries to place the results of analyses in a broader context on the then Slovenian territory.
