This article presents the language attitudes of Slovenian political parties regarding Slovenian and other languages in their programs from 1991 to 2011. The more liberal parties are more open and especially defend the rights of minority languages and foreign-language teaching, whereas the conservative parties focus more on protecting Slovenian. However, a change of stance can be observed in parties of both linguistic poles due to the influence of EU guidelines and the position in the governing coalition and the opposition.
