The article revives the memory of the organisers and the co-organisers of the Seminar of Slovene Language, Literature and Culture. We dedicate it to the people who went to great lengths to popularise the Slovene culture by a modern approach to the vernacular, literature and culture. It is fifty years since the seminar was established in Slovenia. We do not know if the true importance of that decision was realised at the time; perhaps there was uncertainty as to whether the hopes raised by the Slovenes would be met. Thanks to the unusual passion, disinterested engagement and academic professionalism of the organisers and the close friendships established at that time, many seminar participants went on to become promoters of the Slovene language, literature and culture. Slovene Studies, broadly understood, has become a passionate commitment within their professional lives.
