The master's thesis introduces a brief history of wastewater treatment and current legislation in the EU and Slovenia. Further on is an overview of different wastewater treatment technologies followed by the operation of the Nova Gorica Central wastewater treatment plant shown with a description of individual facilities and cleaning procedures. The BioWin program is presented with more detailed descriptions of the elements in the program that illustrate the operation of the Nova Gorica wastewater treatment plant. Based on the knowledge of wastewater treatment processes at the Nova Gorica wastewater treatment plant and the operation of the BioWin program, a mathematical model of the operation of the Nova Gorica wastewater treatment plant in BioWin has been set up. The model includes simulations of wastewater treatment based on project data, simulations based on actual measurements of inflow wastewater and analysis of the model's behavior in case of temperature change, air supply and diffuser distribution in an individual reactor. The simulation results showed agreement with the design calculations and were below the limit values. In the case of simulating wastewater treatment on the basis of actual measurements, the results proved to be adequate and were below the statutory limit values. Several examples of simulations have been performed to determine the effect of changes in aeration and wastewater temperature on parameters concentrations in the permeate. The effects of individual changes are shown in the graphs with the corresponding comments on the change of the concentrations of individual parameters in the permeate.
