Belt conveyors are an important piece of equipment for transporting coal in coal mines. The master thesis presents the Velenje coal mine, the Velenje mining method and the conveyors used in the coal mine. After that, the requirements of the standards relevant for the design of belt conveyors, the requirements for machines in explosion hazard areas and the basics of systematic conveyor design are presented. The design of a new 650 mm wide belt conveyor is presented after that. It will replace the existing belt conveyor, which no longer meets the requirements for transporting coal from the work site to the carting-off conveyors during the construction of the gate roads. This includes initial calculations and selection of the standard elements, such as carrying idlers, drive and other pulleys and the conveyor belt. This is followed by the calculation of the resistances and forces in the belt and the selection of the electric drive motor, brakes, clutches and gearbox. The design of the support frame, the drive unit, as well as the three-dimensional computer models, is then presented. The work has resulted in the final design of the belt conveyor and in the three-dimensional computer model, which can be used as a basis for composition of the technical documentation in the next phase.
