The aim of this diploma thesis was to upgrade the existing thematic dictionary of dialects, an interactive web application created within the Students’ Innovative Project for Social Benefit (Študentski inovativni projekt za družbeno korist – ŠIPK). The web application was created using PHP, HTML, CSS, JQuery and Bootstrap 4 data collection technologies, while MySQL database was used to store and retrieve data. Prior to implementation, the needs and possibilities for upgrading this type of web application were researched. The topic of the diploma thesis is very important for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, as dialectal speech is often neglected in contemporary society. Since dialectal speech is disappearing from everyday use, it is extremely important to preserve archaic expressions and the diversity of dialects for our descendants as well. The online dictionary was upgraded as part of the diploma thesis, errors that appeared at the beginning of its wider use have been eliminated, and the user interface for inputting and editing multimedia content has been redesigned. The list of upgrades was obtained through feedback from the users of the online dictionary. For a better user experience of the online dictionary, user interface and content display had to be improved as well. The result of the diploma thesis is a web application with enhanced functionalities, a customized user interface and an upgraded database.
