On the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, which the department celebrates in the academic year 2020/2021, the author presents the views of students who have visited the department in the last three decades, that is from the transfer of the department from the university at Aškrčeva 2 to the dislocated unit at Zavetiška 5. Through numerous and diverse opinions of the interlocutors, the author identifies the reasons for students to choose the study of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology. The author considers the motivation of students for their grouping in the curricular and extracurricular activities and examines the reasons for the feeling of belonging of students (and other individuals) to the department. She pays special attention to the central issue, which, through the prism of the interlocutors, reveals various anthropological-sociological views on the issue of forming a community of students in the department. She identifies two annual events that take place in the department as more important for the formation of the student community: Brucovanje and Etno je fletno, which she also presents.
