The purpose of the thesis is to present and analyse the cash social assistance and recipients, beneficiaries of this assistance in Slovenia. The cash social assistance is intended particularly to meet all the minimum subsistence requirements. The right for social assistance can be enforced by everyone, whose income does not exceed the legally set limit of income and who also meets other requirements, set by the law. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the terms social security and social welfare. It thoroughly defines the cash social assistance, namely forms of this assistance, its provision and financing. It also presents all the criteria, who must be met by the beneficiary of cash social assistance, the procedure of acquiring this assistance, its duration and the denial or reduction of cash social assistance. The empirical part uses a statistical analysis of secondary data from the period 2015-2019 to present or study the recipients of cash social assistance, the age and gender structure of the beneficiaries and the structure of recipients regarding statistical regions. The statistical analysis showed that the number of beneficiaries is higher than the number of recipients of cash social assistance. The data shows that man receive more cash social assistance than women. The Podravje region has the largest number of recipients and the Primorsko-notranjska region the lowest number of recipients. As a matter of interest, the thesis also presents the first half of 2020, where huge consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic are already visible.
