The article begins with the presentation of the most important findings of experimental investigations on timber-concrete composite structures in fire, together with an overview of simplified methods for the determination of fire resistance of timber-concrete composite elements. In the second part of the article, a worked example of calculation of the fire resistance of a timber-concrete composite beam is given. Here, two of the existing simplified methods are used and thus compared. The focus is on the most notable differences between both procedures, on the assessment of their complexity and on the comparison of the obtained results. The aim of the entire article is to provide the reader with information on the response of increasingly popular timber-concrete composite structures in fire, which are somewhat overlooked in the currently active Eurocodes, although their inclusion in future editions of European standards is already in preparation.
