In my graduation thesis, I analyse cooperation of the school counsellor services with child's family. Through my research, I focused on school counsellors who are social workers. I wanted to show the aspect of working with the child's family and not just working with the parents - as also according to the Program Guidelines (2008), working with the family is usually understood. I was interested in how school social workers understand collaboration with child’s family, in what forms they collaborate with families, and what hinders them from being able to collaborate with the child’s family more often. I researched the contribution of social work to collaboration with the family and applying social work concepts in practice. Furthermore, I was interested in how competent social workers felt at working with the family after graduation. Research has shown that school social workers are not unified in understanding the concept of collaborating with a child's family. The frequency of collaboration also varies significantly - some of the interviewed social workers work with families very rarely, while others work with them very often. Research has shown that school social workers rely on social work concepts in their work. After graduation, most social workers felt well theoretically prepared to work with the family, at the same time most of them felt as they needed more practical training and experience.
