The central topic of the Master’s thesis is the research of the effects of supervision, recognized by kindergarten counsellors at their work. In the first part, we describe theoretical aspects of supervision and the school counselling work, and in the second part, we present the results of the empirical part.
In the theoretical part, we present the concept, origin and development of supervision. We thoroughly present the developmental-educational model of supervision, the function, goals and types of supervision, the factors of supervision and levels of the supervision process. In continuation, we present the concept of school counselling work and the specificities of kindergarten counselling. We also show the findings of researches about supervision in the developmental-educational field.
The empirical qualitative research included four female kindergarten counsellors, who were part of the supervision. In the first content set, we study the selected organizational aspect of supervision and the reasons of kindergarten counsellors to participate in the supervision, and the second part of the research analyses the supervision process. Our final interest are the results of supervision. The results of the research show that the counsellors participated in supervision on their own initiative. They wanted and expected that supervision would provide them with validation, personal and emotional support, as well as with assistance in solving professional problems, new knowledge and skills. We find that today, the interviewees feel empowered in emotionally burdening situations. They became aware of the meaning of understanding interlocutors and improved their understanding of the other person and its position in problem situations. They also obtained new knowledge and developed skills, manifesting in their daily work as searching and testing of new strategies and work possibilities. The counsellors are interested for future assistance and support in the form of supervision. Two of them decided to repeat their participation and are already included in the process.
