In my final thesis entitled Social Criticism in Three Selected Works by Vinko Mӧderndorfer - Limonada slovenica, Evropa and Na dnu, I deal with social criticism presented in the above-mentioned works by the well-known Slovenian poet and writer. Common to all three works is the connection to politics, which the author expresses directly in Limonada slovenica and somewhat more covertly in Na dnu and Evropa. Since Limonada slovenica is a comedy, I have concentrated from the beginning on the literary genre, whose main purpose is to criticize and ridicule current social mistakes. I have also introduced the grotesque, because Evropa and Na dnu are works that depict real life in a tragicomic way, which leaves mixed feelings in the minds of readers and audience alike.
The oeuvre of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of all three works and their dramatic characters. It focuses on themes that can be found in the works and for which the author, in my opinion, uses them for social criticism. I analyse the latter with the help of a paper written by Mateja Pezdirc Bartol entitled »Motivi in teme v najnovejših komedijah Toneta Partljiča in Vinka Mӧderndorferja« (Motives and themes in the latest comedies by Tone Partljič and Vinko Mӧderndorfer). It focuses on the theme of election campaigns and party conflicts, the struggle for power and the theme of capital in society (Pezdirc Bartol 49). For the sake of simplicity, I also add the theme of educated people who cannot find suitable job after graduation.
I have asked the question what are the social shortcomings and characteristics that the author criticizes in the above-mentioned works.
Using the comparative method, the task compares all three works and determines how social criticism is realized in them.
