This thesis provides an overview of Danica Ručigaj's complete works, namely her collections of poems Nightly Silver Plays (1960) and Prisoners of Wind (1963). The contextualisation of her work relies primarily on biographic data and the characteristics of the development of Macedonian literature. Ručigaj's first collection of poems marks an important milestone as the first published poetry collection by a woman on Macedonia's literary scene, and signifies modernistic movement in Macedonian poetry. The thesis examines the poet’s reception and the process of canonisation with consideration to the issue of women’s writing. This is followed by the interpretation of Ručigaj's poetry which determines the main themes and motifs in her writing: the female subject, the bod(il)y, and love.
