In the bachelor thesis, I studied how carbon dioxide can be electrochemically converted into valuable products, such as hydrocarbons and alcohols, using renewable energy as driving force. In the first part of the thesis I addressed the question, why researching methods for removing anthropogenic carbon dioxide is important. I continued with the electrochemical reduction and a description of a few promising methods. Electrochemical methods I have presented in the thesis are: reduction on metal electrodes in aqueous media, non-aqueous solvent systems for CO2 reduction, high pressure electrochemical CO2 reduction, molecular catalyst assisted CO2 reduction and solid oxide approach to the reduction.
