The topic Impact of Geomagnetic Observable Phenomena on Seafarers’ Work is very complex given that geomagnetism is a phenomenon that is in contact with every atom in our lives. The degree thesis will present the primary connection between geomagnetism and work on ship. Due to changes in the way the ship is managed and increasingly growing dependence on tech-nical devices that are directly or indirectly dependent on geomagnetism, this research topic has attracted significant contemporary research interest. The degree thesis is divided into five sec-tions.
The first presents the introductory part, in which I will briefly present the topic of this thesis. In addition, the reason why I decided to write about observable geomagnetic phenomena that may affect the work of a seafarer will be presented. At the end of the first part, I will describe the methods applied to present the most salient concepts and phenomena in more detail.
The second part of the thesis is based on common geomagnetic phenomena. In this chapter, I will present the origins and significance of geomagnetism and the pertinent hypotheses that have emerged throughout history and that apply today. I will then describe the geomagnetic field and its measurable quantities, elements and properties, and procedures, how its values are measured, and what its sources are, among others. One of the most important parts of this chapter is the use of geomagnetism in maritime affairs or, in other words, which devices use its properties to obtain results.
The third part of the degree thesis is based on extraordinary geomagnetic phenomena. In this chapter I will present the extraordinary events on the Sun that affect the geomagnetic field, I will look for the answer to the question why extraordinary conditions occur in the atmosphere, respectively in the ionosphere and magnetosphere. I will also present the impact of geomag-netism on radio communication and navigation.
The fourth part of the degree thesis is based on my own findings and descriptions from the literature, in particular why it is advisable for a seafarer to constantly monitor and observe the geomagnetic field, and all the options using which a seafarer can observe geomagnetic condi-tions. Moreover, I will mention for what purposes, in addition to the usual ones, a mobile phone can be used. At the end of the fourth chapter, I will comment on my own findings of working with a magnetometer and the key conclusions from the survey.
The fifth part is based on the thesis conclusions.
Attached to this thesis are the obtained results of laboratory measurements or the measure-ments of the geomagnetic field with the help of a trios magnetometer operating on the mag-netic resistance effect (MTi, Xsens), with the help of which I measured the components X, Y and Z of the geomagnetic field. The results of the answers of the surveyed seafarers will also be presented.
