This bachlor thesis on degrowth is made up of two main parts – degrowth in theory and degrowth in practice. The first part contains a methodological explanation with a summary from the Online Utrecht Degrowth Symposium and Degrowth Vienna 2020 conference. The first part is continued by an explanation why, in todays time, degrowth is needed and what is degrowth. Further on, a short explanantion on the history of the term degrowth is provided, where it comes from and when it was first used. The thesis is followed by a chapter on how to reach degrowth. In the following paragraphs are listed a few of the pioneers of the degrowth thought, degrowth movement and development of the concept of degrowth, as well as some of their most important works. Following are a few of the elements of degrowth, such as commons, entropy and universal basic income, together with an explanation on what they are. There is a commentary on degrowth in the times of the coronavirus pandemics Covid-19 added at the end of the chapter. The first part of the thesis ends with a chapter on the connections between anthropology and degrowth.
The second part of is comprised of examples of degrowth in practice. An short living experience in ecological communities in Slovenia, Denmark and Estonia is recounted together with their way of living and the degrowth concept. The bachlor thesis is concluded by a chapter of degrowth in tourism and an experience of a study excursion to Morocco in February of 2020.
